giving blood

It's a funny thing that inspires me this week, one of the guys who delivers products to my work was in a bit of a rush last week and normally he is always up for a chat, I asked him why the rush he was running late to an appointment at the blood bank we left it at that.

A few days later he told me he gives plasma every 2-3 weeks I was intrigued so I sent and email of to the blood bank asking how I go about giving blood / plasma whatever they might need.

Turns out its a simple thing fill out a form met the criteria have ID and that's all they take about 1/2 a litre you get a milkshake and a cookie make an appointment for 12 weeks later (blood donation) and do it all again.

How easy and why aren't we all doing it I say free milkshake and you can save a life easy so I'm on the list to give if I'm able to.

More info to follow on how it all goes and if it's really that easy.

  1. Hi Dave
I appreciate where you're coming from. A couple of years ago an annual health check with my GP showed I wasn't far away from Type 2 diabetes: I was overweight. There's no history of diabetes in my family. There is a strong history of cancer though. Then I looked at my 1 year old son (who is now 3, and we have a 1 year old daughter) and I thought I've got be around for you two. Since then I've completed a half marathon (21km) and a 210km bicycle ride. So, good luck with your goals: my family and I are going to do the Mother's Day Run in Melbourne. All the best. Richard.
P.S. I donate blood regularly too, & plasma.
